The event organized by the Association des communes du district du Lac, in collaboration with the cantonal police and the Association des communes fribourgeoises, aims to inform and help you protect yourself against scammers.
Unfortunately, senior citizens are often the target of fraudsters. The grandchild trick, in which criminals pose as distressed relatives and demand money, is one of the most popular scams. Fake police officers claiming to “secure” valuables are also widespread. Some criminals pose as craftsmen and demand exorbitant sums for services not provided. Telephone scammers offer the promise of competitions or contracts. On the Internet, fake stores and phishing e-mails are on the prowl.
Emotional pressure, intimidation and false promises are the main reasons why many senior citizens are lured into handing over money and data. Information and caution are important to protect oneself.
