To commemorate the Battle of Murten, the Historic Murten Shoot has been held on Sunday 22 June or the Sunday following 22 June since 1930.
The event takes place on the “Bodemünzi” (Bois-Domingue), a hill near Murten, where in June 1476 the camp of the Burgundian Duke Charles the Bold and the center of his siege deployment was located.
After a church service and a speech by a guest of honor - since the turn of the millennium, it is not unusual for the head of the Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport to accept the invitation to the event - the approximately two-hour shooting session begins. Beforehand, however, the master marksman gives instructions and checks the weapons. Shooting is carried out at a distance of around 180 to 200 m using ordnance weapons.
The ranking ceremony will take place after the evaluation on the Schulhausplatz in Murten from around 4 p.m., at which time the companies can also receive their targets.
Catering will be provided during the entire event. The festival will also be accompanied by music from the Murten municipal band.
