VRENELI brings a piece of Swiss folklore to the stage.
The story of Vreneli and Hans-Joggeli is said to have taken place in the years 1660 and 1670. With
"Simelibärg" probably means the Guggershörnli. That there really was a Simes Hans-Joggeli,
and that the story could be true, is supported by an entry in the population census of Guggisberg from 1715.
The Guggisberlied, which tells this story, was first mentioned in 1714 and is the oldest surviving text.
and the oldest surviving version of the text dates from 1764.
