A Fribourg-based company founded in 1999, Au-de l'Astre unites professional artists and actors with disabilities around a common theatrical project to offer authentic, emotionally-charged shows. Accompanied live by Les Petits Chanteurs à la Gueule de Bois, Au dresseur de Chapeaux opens the doors of a cabaret whose hours of glory could be traced back to the 1930s, now an underground gambling den. The contortionist has become a bartender, the former dancer serves drinks, the musicians play their notes in the background, the knife thrower hones in on a hypothetical robbery, and the sad clown remains so.
All this little world made the music-hall shine in its roaring twenties. All that remains of the perfume of notoriety is a bittersweet whiff, and everyone's dreams and ambitions are lost in the smoke and alcohol fumes. A developer threatens to buy the place for a song. Everything gets mixed up: impossible love affairs, poker games, preparations for the biggest burglary of the century, artists in need of an audience. The arrival of two Angels will take the cabaret down a path it never imagined.
