Discover the unsuspected beauty of a forgotten world...
Since 2016, the Belgian-Swiss duo Silent_Explorers have been discovering, exploring and photographing abandoned places across Europe, bearing witness to their poetry, the passage of time and the resilience of nature. We call it urban exploration (or urbex). Whether manor houses, castles, theaters, factories, hospitals or farms, these buildings preserve the vibrant traces of an era of lifestyles and small stories that sometimes mingle with the big picture.
After visiting a dozen countries and over 400 locations, these two enthusiasts present their exhibition Chroniques de l'Oubli in the Château de Mézières, which itself went through a period of neglect before becoming the home of the Wallpaper Museum. Strips of tapestry tumbling down, patterns pitted by time and humidity, decayed or charred, some photos directly echo the museum's theme, while others showcase painted, bare or half-collapsed walls that evoke an identical emotion. The exhibition shows a neglected, little-known heritage that is often destined to disappear, but which is surprisingly bright and alive.
