A new lease of life for the odl town.
As a reminder of the large suspension bridge that had brought fame to the city in the 19th century, Fribourg built and renovated two suspended walkways in the years between 1980 and 1990. Straight ahead is the passerelle du Grabensaal, which was built in 1987. The second, the passerelle des Neigles, which you can make out in the background, was rebuilt in 1998. With the construction of a series of bridges in the upper part of town during the 19th century, the historic Old Town of Fribourg saw its influence wain. Today, though, it has won back much of its charm thanks in no small part to these footbridges.
