Theatrical reading and public debate
Brooms, barometers or whistles: for a long time, people in the countryside have used plants to make their everyday tools. Today, a tiny fraction of this knowledge still survives in the face of the encroaching forces of modernisation. The ‘botanical cafés’ aim to save this heritage from oblivion in a light-hearted way. These completely free events are hosted by the excellent actor Vincent Rime (occasionally joined by Céline Cesa).
Botanical cafés differ from traditional lectures in their resolutely participatory nature. Resembling a debate, they give everyone the chance to take part in the discussion or, if they prefer, simply to listen.
Open to everyone, these events encourage the passing on of ancestral and local knowledge. So please do bring along someone you know, whether younger or older. And come and solve, in a friendly and good-natured atmosphere, the various plant-related puzzles presented at each of these cafés.
The result of a fruitful partnership with the Gruyère Pays-d’Enhaut Regional Nature Park and actively supported by the Musée gruérien, the 2026 botanical cafés also benefit from the support of Option Gruyère, the Loterie Romande, the City of Bulle, and the municipalities of Charmey, Château-d’Oex, Gibloux and Vaulruz.
