Photography exhibition at the Cantonal and University Library
In the mid-1990s, the concrete slabs of the BCU were sagging under the weight of the books. Discussions about renovation and expansion began. The winner of the architectural competition was announced in 2010, and the project was approved in a popular vote in 2018.
A year later, the BCU entrusted Francesco Ragusa and Yves Eigenmann with a public commission: to document this monumental construction site through photography. Step by step, the two Fribourgers cast their humanistic gaze on the work of the labourers at the heart of the impressive hole dug in the former shops or in the forest of supports that uphold the weakened walls. From photo to photo, pride is evident on their faces.
