Concert
Beethoven’s Opus 31, composed between 1801 and 1802, marks a major turning point in his oeuvre. Whilst adhering to the classical sonata form, Beethoven displays a freedom of expression and emotional depth that herald the Romantic era.
Pierre Goy, pianist and specialist in period keyboards, performs these sonatas using a historically informed approach on a period fortepiano. A professor at the HEMU in Geneva and Lausanne, he devotes a significant part of his research to the use of the pedal in Beethoven’s works, drawing on historical sources.
The concert is performed on the Aloys Mooser pianoforte held at the Museum of Art and History in Fribourg, a rare instrument of Viennese make, renowned for the richness and variety of its tone.
