Screening and discussion evening about the work of Alain Volery
“The Odyssey of the Gaze” is a narrative of approximately 30 minutes by Alain Volery. It traces a personal and artistic evolution shaped by years, experiences, and travels.
The photographer opened his first photographic studio in a cellar in Praroman in 2008 before moving to the Bourg district in 2016. During his beginnings, his practice primarily developed behind the lens, in a familiar setting where commissions came to him.
The numerous travels he undertook afterwards — from Peru to Norway, from Senegal to Vietnam, through Rwanda and Kenya — profoundly transformed his way of observing and narrating the world. The experience of vlogging notably led him to step in front of the camera and to adopt a new perspective on himself, fostering a more spontaneous and open approach to encounters.
Over time, his photographic approach has evolved. Beyond the search for spectacular images or iconic landscapes, it now places a central focus on the human dimension, integrating the people he meets into the heart of the settings and stories he captures.
