Concert of early music

In late 17th-century Italy, Italian Baroque music gave tangible form to the most intimate emotions and desires. On the cusp of the modern era, as the individual asserted themselves and sought freedom, these ancient sounds retain a surprisingly contemporary power.
Alongside soprano Hélène Walter, the Ensemble Daimonion reveals the full intensity of this repertoire, striking a balance between chamber-music intimacy and dazzling virtuosity. The improvised ornamentation, the inventiveness of the basso continuo, the delightful dissonances of the ‘false che dilettano’ and the harmonic friction all become a source of enchantment here. More than merely an exercise in scholarship, this early Italian music speaks to the heart and continues to move today’s listeners.
