Exhibition at the Swiss Puppet Museum
In Geneva, Ruth Frauenfelder has been running the Théâtre de Gaspard since 1978. Gaspard, this glove puppet from the Germanic tradition of
Kaspertheater (the Kasperli in Swiss German), is, on the stage of Ruth Frauenfelder's puppet theatre, an impudent character but with a
generous heart.
From 1981 onwards, during several stays in Asia, Ruth Frauenfelder became fascinated by shadow theatre in Bali, which she began to explore. She creates figurines to tell folk tales. In 1988, Ruth Frauenfelder uses her figurines to stage the Sumerian epic of Gilgamesh and in 1992 the myth of the goddess Inanna, drawing inspiration from Balinese shadow play.
