Popular outdoor sauna in the heart of the Lower Town
In the legendary Bains de la Motta, by the Sarine and at the foot of the cathedral, Finnish saunas heated with wood under Mongolian yurts. The warmth of the sauna yurts, the contrast of the cold pools, the hotpot, and the relaxation yurt, where tea and water are offered. In one yurt, you dress (swimsuit or fouta), in the other, nudity is permitted. No reservation, no time limit, open to everyone: «your winter lounge». At the bar: local beer, homemade power juice, and light snacks.
New features 2026
- FINTA Day every Tuesday: the sauna is reserved for women and intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender individuals.
- Family sauna on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 11am–5pm (child CHF 12.–).
- Wellness Thursday 60+ with Pro Senectute Fribourg: gentle movement in the yurt, every Thursday 11am–12pm, from 5th November to 25th February (registration with Pro Senectute).
- Aufguss every day, every hour on the half hour: 4:30pm–9:30pm on weekdays, 1:30pm–9:30pm on weekends.
- Late Bird from 9:30pm: CHF 20.– (reduced CHF 15.–).
- Open until 11pm on Sundays as well.
- Two subscriptions: the seasonal subscription and the «quiet hours» subscription (Monday–Friday, entry before 3pm). Advance sale at reduced price until 18th October.
The entrance to the sauna is on the Sarine side, via Chemin de la Motta, and not through the main entrance of the swimming pool.
