After seven years away, Lebanese artist Yasmine Hamdan returns with her third album, entitled “I remember I forget وبتذكر بنسى”, released last September. She, who gained recognition with her pioneering Beirut-based electro-indie group Soapkills, has been navigating as a singer-songwriter since 2012, skillfully intertwining various influences: pan-Arab roots, pop and poetic lyrics, electro, soul, and guitar melodies.
Once you have heard her, you never forget her distinctive voice, both raw and deeply inhabited. Some may have discovered her in Jim Jarmush's award-winning film Only Lovers Left Alive, which premiered at Cannes in 2013, where she acts and sings. For her new album, she immersed herself in the codes of classical Arabic singing and reinterprets them with finesse. Her universe weaves connections between the intimate, the poetic, and the political, driven by a strong attachment to the Arabic language, which she chooses as a vessel for emotions.
Back on stage, Yasmine Hamdan returns with an intensity that is both stripped down and full of grace, affirming her unique place in the contemporary music landscape more than ever. She then carries the audience into a powerful immersive experience, transporting them to atmospheres that are sometimes dark, always sensitive, where poetry surfaces.
