Explore the SMEM with one of the largest collections of electronic instruments and uncover their history and impact on contemporary music.
Founded in 2016 in Fribourg, the SMEM (Swiss Museum and Center for Electronic Music Instruments) is a vibrant archive dedicated to electronic musical instruments. Located in the blueFactory innovation center, the museum houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of synthesizers and drum machines, offering a unique insight into the development of electronic music. Its spaces are divided into two main areas: the "Schaulager," where a collection of rare instruments is displayed for guided tours, and the "Playroom," an interactive workshop where visitors can handle and record with legendary instruments.
As a place of exchange and discovery, the SMEM also hosts special events, workshops, and artist residencies, attracting musicians, amateurs, and curious minds from around the world.
