Three exhibitions related to the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships
On the occasion of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2026, three exhibitions will be open to the public at L’Atelier from 1 to 30 May 2026. The complete programme in the city of Fribourg is presented by the Fribourg2026 Association.
1) From the Augustinians to St-Léonard. Ice Hockey in Fribourg
Supported by the Department of Contemporary History of the University of Fribourg and the Association for the Promotion of Archives and Sports History (AvaHs), this exhibition invites the public to immerse themselves in the history of ice hockey in the canton of Fribourg up to the present day. It also encourages reflection on its future through archival documents, including texts, photographs, videos, newspaper articles, and audio testimonies. Discover also unique historical materials such as gloves, jerseys, and skates.
Guided tours and an evening “Sportvintage” featuring a projection of RTS archives will allow everyone, young and old, to (re)discover this sport.
7 May 18:00 – The Rendez-vous at L’Atelier – guided tour and apéro!
9 May: Museum Night
27 May - 18:00: Sportvintage evening with RTS
2) On your marks… get set… goal! - Primary Schools Exhibition
This exhibition will showcase the work of primary school students from the canton of Fribourg around ice hockey. Using an educational kit designed by the Fribourg2026 Association, classes were invited to explore the world of ice hockey in all its richness and diversity.
3) Fribourg, land of hockey – behind the scenes of a comic
The comic “Fribourg, land of hockey” tells nine stories about skating and ice hockey in the canton of Fribourg. It has been illustrated by local artists. The exhibition offers a chance to discover the creative process behind the comic.
9 May 14:00-16:00 – COMIC KIT Workshop for ages 12 and above: With fun exercises and tips, leave with a hero/heroine ready to embark on their first drawn adventures. Snacks provided. With Adèle Dafflon and organised by MEMO.
You are also invited to see “Hall of Fame - between history and hockey”: when a teacher’s perspective meets the world of hockey, an exhibition to discover at the St-Michel college.
