Baroque music concert
There is no evidence that Torelli and Vivaldi ever met. However, the former undoubtedly had a significant influence on the latter. It would even seem that Torelli was the composer who most influenced the Red Priest. Some of Vivaldi's concertos are so ‘Torellian’ that they have sometimes been attributed to the master from Bologna – and the authorship of a concerto in D minor (transcribed for solo harpsichord by J. S. Bach) is still debated today.
Vivaldi's early works, although already displaying the Venetian's style, bear the clear mark of Torelli. Of particular note are the perfidie, virtuoso solo episodes in which an instrument launches into a series of rapid notes, usually over a sustained bass note.
