Gustav is a Swiss musician and singer from Fribourg. He writes his songs in Swiss dialect (Sensler German), French and Standard German.
Pascal Vonlanthen assumed the pseudonym Gustav back in 1998, the time at which his career began. The same year saw the release of his debut album "Gustav & das Kummerorchester - die Erste" ("Gustav & the Heartache Orchestra - the First"), which includes songs such as "Fribourg mon amour".
The release of his second album, on which Gustav performs some songs in French, marked a turning point in his artistic career. From that moment on, using two languages became his trademark - an allusion to his bilingual home canton of Fribourg and to Switzerland as a multilingual nation.
His album Les jardins de mon cœur, released mid-August 2007, made him a household name and reached position 14 in the Swiss charts.
2010 saw the release of Gustav's sixth album "666" with Universal Music Group. In December 2010 he won first place in the Swiss TV show "Kampf der Chöre" ("Battle of the Choirs"), with a choir he formed himself.
