FRIBOURG REGION is crossed by two of Switzerland's main motorway axes: the A1 motorway, which crosses Switzerland from east to west, and the A12, which links Berne to Vevey.

In villages or towns: 50 km/h
There is no motorway toll in Switzerland but the purchase of an annual road tax sticker is compulsory (CHF 40.-) in order to drive on motorways. The sticker is on sale at customs offices, service stations and newspaper kiosks.

Motorway A1
Linking Berne to Lausanne, through Morat, Avenches, Payerne and Estavayer-le-Lac.

Car hire
SBB railway stations offer the possibility of hiring bikes and cars, even for a few hours. Car and minibus hire can also be organised from airports or in some garages in the Canton of Fribourg.
