A winning trio for a significant event
Hosting an Ice Hockey World Championship requires multiple efforts, especially when it takes place in the smallest city in the modern history of the event. That’s why the State, the city of Fribourg and the hockey club Fribourg-Gottéron have decided to pool their expertise giving rise to the 2026 World Championship / Events & Legacy, Fribourg-Switzerland Association.
The association aims two goals: firstly, to support the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation in organising the prestigious tournament. Simultaneously, it aims to raise Fribourg’s profile in Switzerland and around the world, highlighting its tradition of hospitality and its expertise. In short: to transform this unique event – the biggest ever organised in the canton at sporting level over such a long period – into a unifying project for the whole region of Fribourg.
The association is committed to this goal starting now, notably by proposing a series of projects that will take us all the way to the big event in 2026.
