A New Legacy Project Inaugurated!

On Tuesday, a new locker room – a major legacy project linked to the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship – was unveiled at the BCF Arena. Those in attendance included Romain Collaud (President of the Fribourg 2026 Association), Marc-André Berset (Director of the Fribourg 2026 Association), Yvan Haymoz (Vice-President of Fribourg-Gottéron and of the Fribourg 2026 Association), John Gobbi (CEO of Fribourg-Gottéron), Matti Nurminen (IIHF CEO), Christian Hofstetter (General Secretary of the Organising Committee), Nicolas Mahrbach (Head of Venue Fribourg) and Jenna Suokko (player for the Fribourg-Gottéron Ladies).

The result of a collaboration between the Fribourg 2026 Association (Canton, City, Fribourg-Gottéron) and the Organising Committee of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, this new facility will be dedicated to the women’s team of Fribourg-Gottéron, who play at the highest level of Swiss hockey.

Romain Collaud, President of the Fribourg 2026 Association: «For the Association and the entities involved in the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, promoting the event’s legacy is a priority. We are very proud to provide a new, state-of-the-art locker room, both for the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and for women’s hockey.»

Christian Hofstetter, General Secretary of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship: «I am delighted to be inaugurating this legacy project here in Fribourg, in the context of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, with the construction of this new locker room. My sincere thanks go to all those who made this collaboration possible. Our goal is to create a legacy that extends beyond hockey and benefits the whole region.»

John Gobbi, CEO of Fribourg-Gottéron: «Fribourg-Gottéron is very proud to provide its women’s team with this new locker room. We want our arena to offer the best possible conditions for everyone. This was a unique opportunity to turn the legacy of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship into a benefit for all our teams.»
