The Rathvel pond is an ancient peat bog that was exploited hundreds of years ago in Rathvel near Châtel-St-Denis
It is registered in the national inventory of batrachians reproduction sites. The site brings together the three species of amphibians possible in this kind of environment and at that altitude: the common toad, common frog and the Alpine newt. Among plants, there are rare wetlands such as the spotted orchid, the burnet officinal or comaret.
