Nestled on the famous slopes of Lavaux, the Domaine des Faverges offers a breathtaking view of Lake Geneva. It has had only two owners: the Cistercian Abbey of Hauterive for nearly 700 years, and the State of Fribourg, which has been the current owner since 1848. The monks settled in 1138 on the Faverges land, which they had received from Lord Guillaume de Glâne. From then on, they shaped the terraces to cultivate various plants, including vines.
The State also owns 2.2 hectares in the Vully region, planted with Chasselas, Pinot Noir, Gamaret, and Freiburger. The Cru de l’Hôpital has leased and operated these vineyards since January 1, 2017.
