In times of its splendor, this castle was politically attached to the land of Vaud and played a major role during centuries.
After 2 centuries of happy feudal life, the family of the lords of Montmagny encountered misfortune. They were driven from their castle. From 1478, a bailiff settled in, but after his departure, Fribourg abandoned this proud castle to its fate. Due to lack of maintenance, the dwellings fell into ruins, and today only the solitary keep remains.
In collaboration with the federal and cantonal cultural authorities, the Foundation that owns the site is establishing a preservation programme for the site.
An external staircase leading to the entrance door of the keep, as well as an internal staircase, allow visitors to access, 30 metres higher, the top of the building and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire region.
Information: The Keep of Montagny-les-Monts is currently closed to the public due to restoration work. Its reopening is scheduled for spring 2027.
