The Nativity Trail in Estavayer-le-Lac

For its 30th edition, the Nativity Trail invites visitors to discover the magic of the festive season in the heart of Estavayer-le-Lac. Under the theme “Nativity Scenes of Light”, this anniversary edition celebrates three decades of creativity and community spirit, thanks to the dedication of local residents, shopkeepers and craftspeople who keep this cherished tradition alive year after year.
Two routes to discover the nativity scenes
A major new feature of this 30th edition: the Nativity Trail now offers two separate routes through the medieval old town. Along the narrow streets, shop windows and fountains, visitors can admire original creations and new light installations.
To make the experience even more enjoyable, one of the routes features a fun family game! The challenge is to find Lumi, a little star hidden among the nativity scenes. But beware of the impostors! Can you spot the real Lumi and work out how many times the star appears along the route? A fun way for the whole family to explore the Nativity Trail!

The Tourist Train
Hop aboard the Tourist Train for a ride through the illuminated streets of Estavayer-le-Lac. A delightful way to discover the Nativity Trail with family or friends.
Lantern-lit Storytelling Walks
What if you could rediscover Estavayer-le-Lac by lantern light? New for this 30th edition, these guided storytelling walks lead visitors through the streets of the medieval old town, where tales and stories come to life along the way. Follow your guide and soak up the atmosphere, lantern in hand.
Puppet Shows
At the Museum of Estavayer-le-Lac and its Frogs, children and adults alike are invited to enter the enchanting world of puppetry. A wonderful family experience filled with discovery and wonder, as captivating stories come to life before their eyes.
Practical Information
Location and starting point
The Nativity Trail takes place in the historic centre of Estavayer-le-Lac. Visitors are encouraged to start at the Estavayer-le-Lac Region Tourist Office, Place des Bastians 1, where both routes begin.
Route maps
The official brochure, including detailed maps of both routes, is available at the Tourist Office. Outside opening hours, copies can be picked up free of charge from the self-service display outside the entrance.
Public transport
Estavayer-le-Lac railway station is approximately a 7-minute walk from the town centre.
Parking
Several car parks are available nearby: Casino (5 hours), Champ de Lune (5 hours), Chaussée (2 hours), Prillaz and Amarante (unlimited parking duration).
Accessibility
The shorter route is accessible to pushchairs and visitors with reduced mobility. The second route includes stairs and is therefore unsuitable for pushchairs and visitors with reduced mobility. Please note that some streets in the old town are cobbled or have gentle slopes.
Food and drink
Several restaurants remain open during the event. A chalet offering light refreshments is also located on Place de l’Église, with opening hours that may vary.
When is the best time to visit?
Both routes can be explored at any time. However, a visit in the late afternoon or evening is recommended to fully enjoy the illuminations and magical atmosphere.
