The "Bénichon" is a century-old, traditional Fribourg celebration!
Originally, the Bénichon festival was one of blessing: people thanked God for all that nature had given and what had been harvested throughout the year. Over the centuries, the religious ceremony has disappeared, and only the popular and gastronomic festival remains... The Bénichon menu is the star of the event!
Today, it is an opportunity for families to gather around a lavish table. Traditional products such as cuchaule, ham from Borne, leg of lamb, or meringues take centre stage in this very varied menu!
Since 1969, the youth association of Ecuvillens has organised a folkloric parade every Sunday during Bénichon, featuring several decorated floats reflecting the political, sporting, and media events of the moment. A large herd of cows and various musical and folkloric performances are presented.
On Saturday, an Old Timer shuttle connects Fribourg (Place Georges-Python) and Ecuvillens.
