Bilingual French and Swiss German dialect spoken mainly in the Lower Town of Fribourg.
Bolz is a dialect spoken in the Lower Town of Fribourg. It consists of a mixture of French and Swiss-German in one sentence without transition. The exodus of farmers increased in the 19th Century until the 1940s. Indeed, the population grew in the Old Town as the city welcomed people from the countryside. Coming from different places and speaking two different languages, the children began to use the vocabulary they preferred and consequently began to mix the languages in a sentence while playing outside.
