The BCU supports the intellectual life of the canton with resources for teaching, research and the preservation of cultural memory.
In an age where access to reliable and high-quality information is crucial, BCU Fribourg offers a space for learning, discovery, and memory in the heart of the city and the canton.
Online and in its new building, it provides significant documentary resources and ensures access to scientific information. It also preserves the cultural heritage of the canton and hosts a rich cultural programme.
The BCU's mission is to contribute to the education and general culture of the population, to provide the essential tools for university education and scientific research, and to ensure the conservation and promotion of Fribourg's cultural documentary heritage. Furthermore, it contributes to the development of public reading in the canton of Fribourg.
The brand new building offers over 200'000 documents available for free access (books, journals, music, audiovisual materials), numerous study and reading spaces, access to national and international press at the café La Parenthèse, and areas dedicated to hosting cultural activities such as exhibitions, workshops, and conferences.
The BCU's facilities are largely available free of charge.
