Discover Notre-Dame Chapel, perched on the heights of Niremont
Frequently hit by landslides since the 13th century, the village of Semsales placed its trust in the Virgin Mary. In 1868, this devotion led to the construction of the Niremont Chapel, designed to house the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary. Built thanks to the active and voluntary participation of parishioners, the chapel was inaugurated in 1869 in front of nearly 2,000 worshippers. Over time, it underwent several embellishments – the addition of a bell, stained glass windows by the artist Yoki, structural renovations – while remaining a lively place of pilgrimage. Even today, the Chapel of Our Lady of Niremont remains a powerful symbol of popular piety and the inhabitants' attachment to their religious heritage, celebrated every 15 August on the feast of the Assumption.
