In autumn, come and observe the deer roar !
At the Ferme des Planches, the Maillard family raises about 150 cervids including two deers. In autumn, you can come without reservation and discover the impressive deer roar. Indeed, in this period, during the rut, the hormones of the deer multiply by 1'000. The deer shouts very loudly and deeply. He no longer feeds and thinks only of wooing his hinds. He can lose up to 1/3 of his weight. The best period to hear it is between October 1st and 30th.
During all the year, with a prior reservation, you can ask for a guided visit of the farm. Sébastien Maillard, a passionate breeder, will share his knowledge, anecdotes and experiences. He will let you feed the deers and watch them closely. Sébastien will also give you an explanation of the restraint room, where cares are given to the cervids. Then you will also be able to see the honey house and discover the fabulous world of bees. A glass hive, depending on the season, will be exposed and you will have explanations on the life of a hive and the extraction of honey. At the end of the visit, you will enjoy a tasting of the products of the farm.
The farm also sells deer meat and various handicrafts.
