In recent years, rice cultivation has taken root in the Broye region of Fribourg!
From field to plate, rice production involves several steps. Starting in mid-May, young seedlings are planted directly in water. From June onwards, the rice grows rapidly. In August, the plants begin to flower, and rice grains gradually form. Once ripe, they are harvested with a combine harvester in October. After that comes drying, storage, dehusking, and packaging.
Rice fits perfectly into many dishes and pairs well with a variety of flavors, such as saffron or mushrooms.
