Honey is a true gift of nature, and has long been used as a medicinal remedy. From a nutritional perspective, honey has always held great importance. In the canton of Fribourg, many people practice beekeeping as a hobby, while others have made it their profession, such as Alexandre Gumy of Rucher.ch and Jean-Christophe Audemard of Frimiel.
Since 2023, two labels have joined forces to strengthen the positioning of high-quality Fribourg honey. The Terroir Fribourg association, with its label Fribourg-regio.garantie, and the Fribourg Beekeeping Federation (FFA), with the apisuisse Gold Label, have started a new collaboration to promote local honey production. The combination of these two labels offers consumers an unmatched guarantee of quality and regional origin. Visually, jars of honey bear a seal featuring both logos.
The apisuisse Gold Label guarantees honey quality. Beekeepers displaying it on their jars undergo regular inspections by specially trained inspectors. Essential criteria include good beekeeping practices, parasite control according to official guidelines that leave no residue in the honey, and impeccable hygiene during harvesting and packaging. This ensures consumers a level of quality that surpasses legal food safety standards.
