Starting from Münchenwiler (Villars-les-Moines in French), this route follows the shores of Lake Morat to Avenches, the former capital of Roman Helvetia.
Avenches is home to numerous remains of fortifications, temples and thermal baths, not to mention a famous amphitheatre. The route then passes through Grand Belmont forest, which is situated on a rounded hill sloping gently down towards Domdidier, before reaching Payerne and its famous abbey church. The latter welcomes visitors with an immersive and interactive audio guide tour.
Tip: stop in Avenches to visit its Roman museum, then again in Payerne to contemplate its majestic Romanesque church.
