Usually closed to the public, the keep of the Chenaux castle reveals its secrets for a few months.
In Estavayer-le-Lac, the dungeon of the Chenaux castle is exceptionally open to the public. This rare piece, dating from the construction of the first castle started in 1284, is worth a visit. In the past, robbers were imprisoned there. Two wooden prisons are still there, the opportunity to immerse yourself, for a few moments, in the life of a prisoner.
The top floor of the donjon was used to raise pigeons. This function was abandoned with time, but the breathtaking view of the city and Lake Neuchâtel from the dovecote rewards the climb up the stairs.
