The Nature centre BirdLife La Sauge offers fascinating insights into the natural world and birdlife of the Lake Neuchâtel region.
Located on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel, within the Grande Cariçaie nature reserve, the centre is dedicated to protecting birdlife and the region’s unique habitats.
Nature trails lead to several observation hides, allowing visitors to get close to wildlife. With a bit of patience, you can observe numerous bird species, amphibians and other animals in their natural environment. These facilities offer rewarding experiences and highlight how vital these habitats are for many species. Many rare and endangered birds breed here, stop over during migration or spend the winter.
Inside the visitor centre, interactive exhibitions showcase the region’s natural richness in an engaging way. The centre is worth a visit all year round: in spring and autumn, many migratory birds can be observed, while in summer, the wetlands are teeming with life.
Right next to the centre, a restaurant and a hotel invite visitors to extend their stay with a relaxing break or an overnight stay in the heart of nature.

Arrival by boat:
The “La Sauge” landing stage is located 50 m from the centre. Boats operate from Neuchâtel, Murten and Biel.
Bicycles are carried free of charge on board (except from Biel).

From Ins or Avenches, take the PostBus to the stop “Cudrefin, La Sauge”, or rent a bike at Ins railway station (approx. 20 minutes).
