Situated in the Fribourg Pre-Alps, the region offers a privileged natural setting between plains and mountains.
Châtel-Saint-Denis, the administrative centre of the Veveyse district, has a population of 8,957 and hosts the tourist resort of Les Paccots. Its demographic and economic growth is supported by its proximity to the A12 motorway and the Lake Geneva region. Located at an altitude of 810 metres, the municipality is traversed by the Veveyse river, which springs from the Dent de Lys massif and flows into Lake Geneva at Vevey. Châtel-Saint-Denis lies on the watershed that directs the waterways towards the Rhône and the Rhine via the Veveyse and the Broye.
The highest point of the municipality is the Dent de Lys, which reaches an altitude of 2,014 metres. To the north of Châtel-Saint-Denis, Lake Lussy constitutes a vast marshland and a protected nature reserve. This preservation also extends to the Lake des Joncs, located in Les Paccots.
