An opulent residence dating from the early 19th century with two residential floors over a ground floor on which there was a tannery.
Leather work was a thriving activity at that time. The town’s location meant that the tanner had sufficient raw material. Furthermore, the leathers could be sold at Rue’s famous fairs. At the bottom of the tannery can be found the last remains of Rue’s pre-industrial heritage with a threshing machine, a pestle and a sawmill.
The owner of the tannery was one of the few residents of Rue in the 19th century to own a carriage, which he used to make deliveries beyond the district of Rue.
