Serene, mystical, radiant India: a photographic journey to the heart of emotion
This exhibition grew out of several trips to India: an initial visit to the heart of
Madhya Pradesh in 2024, followed by further immersive experiences in Kolkata and Assam. These
are regions of stark contrast, yet linked by a shared human and emotional intensity.
Through my photographer’s eye, I am less concerned with describing a country than with
bearing witness to encounters. Faces, gazes and light become an intimate dialogue
with the people I meet along the way. Each image is the result of an
encounter, a shared moment. Guided in my approach by the internationally renowned
humanist photographer Olivier Föllmi, I have learnt to place the encounter at the heart of my work and to
photograph with my heart. This sensitive approach underpins the entire series
presented here
Biography
Véronique Buclin-Charrière
Although my roots are firmly planted in Gruyère, they do not stop me from dreaming
of other places. Travel is an essential source of inspiration for broadening my
curious and dreamy outlook.
Over the years, various photography workshops have shaped my perspective and enriched my
practice. My photographic work, however, took on a new dimension during a
first trip to the heart of rural India, in Madhya Pradesh, then to
traditional urban India in Kolkata and the villages of Assam.
My love of photography offers me a space of freedom where I can express my
sensitivity, capturing simple yet emotionally charged moments, in contrast to
the rigour of my professional life as a laboratory technician.
For me, photography is about encountering the world with an open heart
and succeeding in moving other people.
