What is a handpan?
The handpan is an acoustic musical instrument with a captivating and soothing sound. Made of metal, it consists of a domed upper shell with several tuned notes arranged in a circle around a central note, called the ding. Played by hand, it produces rich harmonic sounds and deep vibrations. Its unique sound, combining percussion and melody, makes it a popular instrument for meditation, musical performances and sound therapy. It is inspired by the steel drum and was popularised by Swiss craftsmen in the early 2000s.
