Hike trough a wild and romantic valley starting at the old town of Fribourg.
Cross the Pont de Berne in Fribourg Old Town and head towards the Gottéron gorge. After walking past the fish farm, the gorge awaits, where the footbridges and sturdy wooden steps will ease your way through this idyllic landscape. 35 minutes’ later, you will reach an outcrop of moss-covered tuff stone. From there, a 10-minute walk will lead you out of the humidity of the gorge into the invigorating air of the Fribourg countryside. After a further half hour, you will arrive at a natural spring, before reaching the hamlet of Ameismühle. From there, walk up the forest path on the right to arrive at the Schürmatt farmhouse. A country road overlooking the gorge will lead you to the Tannholz wood in Bourguillon. Cross the Gottéron bridge to make your way back to Fribourg.
Alternative A: If you opt for the northern route at Ameismühle, on exiting the gorge take the path heading towards the main Tafers-Plaffeien road. Before the junction, turn left on to the road towards Maggenberg, then follow the path which runs alongside the northern edge of the Gottéron ravine to arrive at Petit-Schönberg.
