Obermaggenberg ruin is the only partly preserved castle of the district of Sense.
The castle replaced the ancestral castle near Maggenberg (Tafers), but was largely destroyed as early as 1387 as a result of the war between Bern and Fribourg. It is located at 890 meters, high above the Sense, in the municipality of Tafers in the district of Alterswil.
