Active Cistercian nuns' abbey (cloistered). Specialties: mustards, sauces, and jams.

At the foot of the hill of Romont, the Cistercian Abbey of La Fille-Dieu was founded in 1268 by three young women from the region. Its first church, consecrated in 1346, is 90% preserved in its original state — an exceptional architectural heritage for a building of this age.

In 1990, a major renovation was undertaken: the monastic buildings were modernised and the abbey church restored. It was then adorned with a remarkable set of stained glass windows, inspired by Cistercian art, created by the British artist Brian Clarke. These non-figurative stained glass windows filter light in a subtle manner, turning blue in the sanctuary and brighter in the nave.

Through their simplicity and themes, these works express hope and make the abbey a true place of serenity, where one can forget daily life and reconnect with oneself.

The specialty of the monastery shop is mustard, made according to a recipe found at the abbey. The old-fashioned, strong mustards, or those with honey, are made from natural ingredients.
