Holy Friday mass is celebrated in the collegiate church.
On the afternoon of Good Friday, an air of contemplation pervades the hillside town of Romont.
Following Good Friday mass, celebrated in front of the imposing collegiate church, a cross bearer, whose head is covered with a piece of black cloth, and 20 veiled women, also dressed in black, commemorate the Passion and Crucifiction of Jesus. Known as "Les Pleureuses" (or wailing women), they bear the instruments of the crucifiction on bright red cushions: a crown of thorns, nails, hammer, birch sticks and a whip. Praying and chanting, the sombre cortege slowly makes its way through the town, stopping briefly to pray at the fourteen stations of the cross, which lead to Calvary and the death of Christ.
