Discover the legend of the Freiburger and the signature of a winemaker who unites tradition and modernity.

Alain Derron – A Winemaker by Passion
Raised in Môtier, in the heart of the Vully, Alain knew from an early age that his path would lead him into the vineyards. After completing his studies in viticulture and oenology, he took over the family estate together with his cousin. Today, the two cultivate around ten hectares of vines, part of which are farmed according to organic principles. Alain values the diversity of his profession – from working on the steep slopes to meeting with customers. He particularly enjoys the moments alone on his tractor, when he feels the peace and freedom among the vines. A special place in his work is held by the Freiburger, a grape variety that has found its perfect terroir in the Vully. With each vintage, Alain gives it his personal touch, combining tradition, closeness to nature, and authenticity – values that are essential to him as a winemaker.

The Freiburger – The Legend of the Vully
The Freiburger is a true specialty of the Vully and has found its home here. It can be recognized by the small black speckles on its grapes. According to legend, they are the tears of the moon, shed after a failed love story. This poetic origin perfectly reflects the wine’s character – spicy, fruity, and full-bodied.
Created in 1916 in Freiburg im Breisgau and brought to the Vully in the 1950s by Louis Chervet, the Freiburger has found a unique terroir here. The combination of molasse soils and the mild lake climate allows it to develop its full aromatic richness.
Today, the Vully is the main production region for this grape variety in Switzerland – if not in the world. In the glass, the Freiburger unfolds its full diversity and pairs beautifully with fish, asparagus, or autumn specialties. A wine that, like its region, embodies authenticity and character.

Domaine Derron – Five Generations of Winemaking in the Vully
The story of Domaine Derron began in 1876 with Auguste Derron, who laid the foundation for the family estate. Over five generations, the family’s winemakers have passed on their passion, knowledge, and dedication to the vines – always with the goal of expressing the unique character of the Vully at its best.
Today, Alain and Christophe Derron manage the estate and cultivate around twelve hectares of vineyards, six of which are family-owned. Balancing tradition and modernity, they place great emphasis on quality – from the careful work in the vineyards to the vinification in the cellar.
Domaine Derron stands for authenticity, deep roots, and the pride of a winemaking family that has been bringing the character of its homeland into the glass for more than 140 years. Their wines embody a terroir shaped by molasse soils and the lake’s mild climate, creating an incomparable diversity that has made the Vully known far beyond the region.
