The meadow-like site of the Kanonenmätteli is located at the eastern entrance to the town.
It was here in 1476 that Charles the Bold set up his canons and artillery to bombard the city walls. During the annual commemoration of the Battle of Murten on June 22nd, a canon is set up and fires a salute during the festivities.
