You'll experience the whole variety of the region on the Three Lakes tour: the endless reach of the Grosse Moos plain, unspoilt shorelines, fascinating river landscapes and historic towns such as Murten or Erlach.
The leisurely Three Lakes tour is mostly on traffic-free paths and takes you along lakes, across wide plains, through historic towns and villages. After the start in the Zähringer town of Murten, cycle in the direction of Ins and on the way cross the Pont Rotary, one of the few remaining constructions of the 2002 Exhibition (Expo. 02). After Ins, the route continues along the Zihl Canal to Erlach, well worth seeing with its 11th century castle.
It’s also definitely worth stopping at one of the fish restaurants in Erlach or Lüscherz. The cycle route now follows the southern shore of the Lake of Biel to the 130 year-old Hagneck Canal, probably the most important element of the Jura waters correction. Then it’s back across the Grosse Moos – known as the vegetable garden of Switzerland, more than 60 varieties are cultivated here – then via Kerzers to the starting point of Murten. Attractive bars and restaurants await you here in the old town where you can celebrate the successful completion of your tour by bike, tandem or e-bike.
