Fine and powerful
The artist Doris Fankhauser is exhibiting her acrylic paintings from 5 to 27 October under the theme "fine and powerful". She has been interested in outer and inner spaces since childhood. How the light expands them and makes a wealth of patterns recognisable. She explores these spaces in forests, by the water and within herself. Her resulting acrylic landscapes oscillate between figuration and abstraction, movement and stillness, painted surfaces and drawn structures. They explore light and colour energies. After a few semesters at the University of Zurich, the artist transferred to what was then the Zurich School of Arts and Crafts and completed a classical training programme with subsequent stays abroad. As her first independent work, she turned to symbols such as the cross, circle and vase, drawing on a universal reservoir of images. In the next phase, she took up work on landscapes. Rooted in her love of nature, she wanders among birch trees, which remind her of the new vitality, delicacy and mystery. For the past two years, the feather has emerged as a symbol. Its various levels of meaning evoke flight, the connection between heaven and earth and an expanded consciousness in writing. The artist lives in Sugiez/FR and is also active as a poet.
