‘Fantasie’ with organist Mirjam Wagner-Meister.
‘Is it possible to make music or compose without imagination?’ Inspired by this question, Mirjam Wagner presents a varied concert programme. Throughout the history of music, there have been many different forms of musical ‘fantasie’:
For example, Johann Sebastian Bach’s *Pièce d’Orgue*, which was only later given the title *Fantasie*, consists of three movements, each with a different character and showcasing a wide variety of organ sounds.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Fantasia in F is one of three pieces he composed for the clock-flute.
With his ‘Pièce de phantaisie’, Louis Vierne draws on Robert Schumann’s ‘Phantasiestücke’, which he greatly admired.
Max Reger’s grand chorale fantasies for organ are very well known. For Mirjam Wagner, ‘In paradisum’ by Ghislaine Reece-Trapp (b. 1992) is a piece she associates with great imaginative richness. The piece is based on the melody of the Gregorian chant of the same name.
Since 2023, Mirjam Wagner has been church musician at the Reformed Church in Wädenswil, where she initiated the ‘Orgelmusik zur Marktzeit’ concert series. In October 2025, she took up the post of organist at the Reformed Church in Zug, where she is responsible for church music and the concert programme. Alongside her concert engagements, she teaches piano and organ at the music schools in Zug and Einsiedeln and performs in various chamber music ensembles.
