This coming summer, the Battle of Murten will return to the stage. The focus this time is not on the fighting in the field, but on the perspective of the people who were trapped inside the town.
“Charles the Bold is marching on Murten!”
The news spreads fear among the residents of Murten. Yet under the leadership of Adrian von Bubenberg, the Bernese and Freiburg defenders hold their ground. Behind the town walls, a moving story of friendship, loyalty, and love unfolds: young Ulrich seeks revenge for fallen comrades, Philippe struggles with loyalties, and Catherine fights for self-determination.
At the heart of the open-air theater are the people of Murten, who endured the eleven-day siege behind the walls. How did they experience Charles the Bold’s attacks? What fears, hopes, and worries did they face? How did Adrian von Bubenberg handle betrayal and intrigue, and how did he continually inspire courage and faith in those trapped inside (“As long as a vein still flows in us, no one will give in!”)?
Eight storms batter the walls as the call for relief grows ever more urgent. The question remains: will help arrive in time, or will Murten fall?
