Every first Sunday in October, the region comes to life: the legendary Murten Run brings together over 16,000 runners and numerous spectators from all over Switzerland and beyond.
The Murten Run is much more than just a sporting competition – it is an event with deep historical roots. In 1476, the Swiss Confederates won a decisive victory over Charles the Bold in the Battle of Murten. According to legend, immediately after the battle a messenger ran from Murten to Fribourg, holding a branch of a linden tree in his hand to announce the victory.
To this day, the Murten Run commemorates this historic moment. Every year at the beginning of autumn, the race brings together history, sport and tradition in a unique experience. The course passes through one of the most beautiful landscapes in the region and captivates participants and spectators with an incomparable atmosphere along the entire route.
Over the decades, the Murten Run has become one of the most traditional and impressive running events in Switzerland – an occasion that inspires athletes and visitors alike.
